CCICD promotes New Documentary Series to Showcase Ancient Chinese Scientific Wisdom

The China Center for International Communication Development (CCICD) issued a press release here on Thursday to promote a new documentary series globally named as “Ge Wu Zhi: A Journey Through Ancient Chinese Science and Technology”.

A groundbreaking five-part documentary series, "Ge Wu Zhi: A Journey Through Ancient Chinese Science and Technology," already premiered on December 1, inviting viewers around world on an immersive exploration of China’s rich legacy of scientific discovery and innovation, CCICD said in the press press release.

From observing the heavens to examining the natural world, ancient Chinese thinkers drew profound insights from the rhythms of nature—the movement of the sun and moon, the growth and decay of plants—laying the groundwork for remarkable scientific and technological achievements.

This documentary series seeks to unravel these enduring contributions, offering a window into the ingenuity and philosophical depth of traditional Chinese science, CCICD said.

According to the press release, the documentary series are structured around the classical Chinese elements of metal, wood, water, fire, and earth, each episode delves into a distinct field of ancient innovation, which are:

The Virtue of Metal explores metallurgy and stone craftsmanship

The Vitality of Wood highlights architectural and engineering marvels

The Harmony of Water examines water management and hydraulic systems

The Light of Fire traces the mastery and cultural significance of fire

The Foundation of Earth focuses on agriculture and land-use wisdom

Through these themes, the series reveals not only the sophistication of ancient inventions but also the scientific methods, thinking, and spirit embedded within traditional practices. It aims to revive timeless wisdom, demonstrating its relevance and inspiration for the modern world.
